Second
I do believe there would be more drugs... maybe a 'blanket ban' would be more beneficial

yes well.. those are the only ones i know.... how would u phrase a blanket ban? "all substances, natural or unnatural, that, when ingested, inhaled, intraveniuosly inserted, or by any other means, causes long or short term negative psychological or physiological effects." one could argue that caffeine would fall under this ban... a clause exempting caffeine may be in order, otherwise a certain count of ours may be in some trouble ;D but yeah, a blanket ban would be best... can u think of any better phrasing than the one i proposed?

we'd have to have some sort of Natopian FDA to classify substances as harmful though.

Hmmm... maybe we can say any illegal substance that is not a prescription medicine that causes all that. That phrasing is good though, otherwise
And leave out the caffeine! I love that stuff...

I wish to keep the debate going.
What if the patient who uses, say, "medical mariajuana" is healed, but becomes addicted to it? He gets out of the hospital, with the addiction, buys more drugs to feed the addiction that the DOCTOR perscribed...and DIES from it! Is it his fault ?..or the doctor's fault! You say he won't be addicted if it's perscribed by a doc? because it's only a small, regulated amount? Well, then why not have drugs accessible to people in small amounts?
If you make drugs illegal, what's next? why not make smoking illegal? that hurts you AND others around you. i say let's make a law for that too!
hey, is beer included in this law? I think it should be! COMPLETELY ban beer, too! yeah yeah people think they can handle it themselves to only consume a smart amount, but...but it's ADDICTING! just like drugs are! in fact, beer and alcohol are really bad for you! don't you remember everything learned in DARE class? you could have a car accident and KILL PEOPLE!
while i'm on cars, why don't we make drag racing illegal. that's not only a danger to you but other people too!
Illegal drugs.... didn't someone once say that if it's illegal, kids want to do it more and more?
freedom to choose what you want to inject/inhale into your own body..........
hm, what else is a potential harm to your body? how about ......eating too many fat calories in one day! let's make a law! what? it could HURT YOU if you don't eat wisely!!! what? just trying to HELP people who can't make their own choices!!! and it could hurt other people! somehow, i'm sure.... yeah! you could die from obesity and leave your children or other family members without a parent! that should be illegal!
i'm just saying stuff here. if drugs were legal, i'd support a law that makes awareness of affects mandatory before selling them. like the little warnings on cigarette boxes.
ok, i'm done. i just wanted to actually post here for once. I really don't care about this drug thing. whoa whoa. we're just NOW making a law? that means right now drugs are legal in natopia. why kind of a country are you trying to run here nathan? new netherlands? pass that law! stop those drugs! we need to take ACTION people!!
if someone REALLY wants to do drugs, they'll buy them anyway. making them illegal only makes the prices go up...ergo making people STEAL if they don't have the extra money.
DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO STEAL!??
hum... along those lines, placing drug abusers/users in jails only overcrowd them...making LESS room for the REAL, VIOLENT people! THEREFORE, making the sentencing SHORTER/ giving earlier parols for the REAL criminals in order to keep the flow going through the prison as to not overcrowd! THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!
hahaha. ok. NOW I'm done. nate, i think i read too much of that libertarian webiste the other day.
my side on this debate: i abstain, courteously!

all valid points, firstly, i retract my motion to vote so that debate may continue I agree... my intent for that medical clause was just to allow to releive pain in terminally ill patients... that clause should be re-written or re-thought... does it even need to be in there? what about morphine... does that count as illegal under this act? if not, morphine can be administered bny doctors to releive pain, right? but then, ppl get addicted to morphine too, right? also, perscriptions DO run out after a time... so one perscription wont sustain a druggie for as long as he'd like. this law is designed to ban smoking as well. beer has been prohibited by Royal Code section 23, recently passed. I assume you mean "street racing" not drag racing... but id support a ban on that as well. all this talk of banning... where do we draw the line? sherry makes a great point, her sarcasism is greatly appreciated... watch this: www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/230292but anyway... using that logic... this law will ban unhealthy foods... hmm... neem, maybe a "blanket ban" wasnt such a good idea... i want my Chesey Poofs!! lol

yay, i thought i was going to get a "harsh talkin' to" (never a yell in the royal frenzy!) by ye royal olde king nate the first.
I LOVE that cartoon nathan linked in his post! it's awesome.
Does anyone here HAVE a drug problem? (don't have to raise hands...) well, does anyone have a problem that they want help with, how 'bout that? is anyone harming someone else with their drugs?
We could decide to leave it at "let's cross that bridge when we get there"
what do you think? ;D

hmm... thats a good suggestion... i thought of a little phrase last nite about the perfect government "it helps those who ask, and ignores those who dont"
ok... so we just let people destroy their bodies? hmm.. i guess if we let the stupid ones destroy themselves... they'll be removed from the gene pool eh? anyway... i still think that if u have the right to destroy your own body, you still have no right to harm someone else while doing so.
so... instead of banning things... do we just restrict them to privacy? you can only drink in your own house... you can only smoke, shoot up, snort, whatever... in your own house. but then, what if u live with a non-smoker... or children?

the spouse/roommate/person you live with (excluding children) has the choice not to live with you if your actions bother them. children, on the other hand..... maybe it should be illegal when they're home. ha. i don't know what to say about that part. good question king.
