Do any of you Gateway City types happen to know the neighbourhood in St. Louis called Baden? I'm kind of curious about it. Specifically, do you know the Bethlehem Lutheran Church there? Most of my family were parishoners there in the early 20th century, I believe. For that matter, do any of you know any Englers, Saaks, Brauns or Schleefs? I'm descended from oodles of St. Louis Germans.

Bummer. Always curious about that stuff. My great uncle Ed Engler still lives, I believe, at some retirement apartment complex right downtown, a hop, skip and jump from the arch and Busch Stadium and all that. I also have a second cousin who was a sports reporter on KPLR for a bit, but this was a while ago, and I have no idea where he might be now, who goes by the name Gil Engler. I understand there is also an Engler Street somewhere in St. Louis, but I imagine that street must be named after someone in the rich part of my family, to which, alas, I was not admitted.

There's a guy named Enger at our school? I don't really know that many people's names unless they are my friends or they went to elementary school with me.

My dad's side of the family is german-descended, but they came from the Ste. Genevive area (about an hour south of St. Louis).
