the "God" thread was starting to lean towards this topic, so might as well branch off now before its completly off-topic going off of what xon said, i basically beleive that too... Genesis tells the order of the way things were formed... and the days were not 24 hour days.

Why do you interpret the days of Genesis 1 to be longer than a normal day?

i consider the story of creation to be just that, a story to exaplain the begining of the world to early Christians who had no clue the world was round and orbited a sun and all sorts of astronomical things out there. every religion has a creation story... some more bogus than others.
Genesis was written because, as i see it.... back then they couldnt even comprehend such a thing as the Big Bang theory... its much easier, to say "Because God did it"

I have a question, did God create or just begin the evolutionary process?

well now u rephrased the question while i believe the story of creation was a story... i still believe the Bible is divinely inspired, written, whatever. so God, knowing that the early followers couldnt comprehend the "real" story... used the "Real" story as a basic timeline. observe this little dialogue i thought up: God: but Moses, why cant i just tell them about the nebulas and suns and space dust forming. I did make ALL that matter out of my best volleyball didnt i? they deserve to know my Awesome Power! Moses: Well, yes God... but... i mean... humans, despite you leading their development to get your image, are rather dim. they may look like you.. but boy... they're dumb! God: well... there must be a compromise..... why dont i just divide each period of millions of years into a smaller time, like a day? the first million/billion years, the stars formed... that'll be the first day. and so on? Moses: why sure, thats a great idea God! want some nachos?

LOL!
But I see the point, even though I respectively disagree. I guess it doesn't really matter anyways, I mean, who knows who is 'right' nobody was there...
