Pre-Service Hymn
Introit
The Introit can be said or sung as the clergy enter. The Introit usually changes weekly, see appendix for appropriate introit.
Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles!
Laud Him, all you peoples!
For His merciful kindness is great toward us,
And the truth of the LORD endures forever.
Praise the LORD!
Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.
The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high,
who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be forever. Amen

Old Testament Reading
L: A reading from Genesis 18:1-15:
The LORD appeared to Abraham* by the oaks* of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. 2He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. 3He said, ‘My lord, if I find favour with you, do not pass by your servant. 4Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’ So they said, ‘Do as you have said.’ 6And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, ‘Make ready quickly three measures* of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.’ 7Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
9 They said to him, ‘Where is your wife Sarah?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ 10Then one said, ‘I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?’ 13The LORD said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” 14Is anything too wonderful for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.’ 15But Sarah denied, saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. He said, ‘Oh yes, you did laugh.’
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm/Epistle Reading
L: A reading from Romans 5:1-8:
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we* have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access* to this grace in which we stand; and we* boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we* also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading
A reading from the Holy Gospel Matthew 9:35-10:8:
Glory to you, O Lord.
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’
Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.Gk hea 2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;Other ancient authorities read Lebbaeus, or Lebbaeus called Thaddaeusb 4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7As you go, proclaim the good news, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.”Or is at handc 8Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.
D: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Collect
Let us pray.
A collect for the proper season is said now.
Almighty God, give us faith to live this day not knowing where it will lead, but with the assurance that your love and guidance are with us always; through Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Sermon
Today I would like the focus on Matthew's gospel and what it has to teach us. The first portion of today's lection teaches us about Jesus' compassion for those who do not know Him. The text says, "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." He had compassion because they did not know Him and did not have a pastor to lead them. This is the general state of our world today. Most do not know of Jesus or of his sacrifice and even more do not have a pastor to guide them in the troubles of life. We can help solve this issue. The next portion of the lection says, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." We must pray for God to send us missionaries to go into the microworld and tell of the Good News and establish parishes with active presbyters. We have compassion on those without a pastor just as Jesus did and that is one of our goals; getting priests.
As you well know, our Church is in a shortage of priests right now. We only have two bishops to govern the whole Church. We need faithful men to sign up for the job. It is very tough and time consuming at times but it is well worth it. But we cannot do this job by ourself, we need help and that is the job of the laity. They must hear the call and join the clergy or participate as a faithful layperson. The body works together to perform daily living, so the Church works together to accomplish its goal.
Creed
Let us state what we believe:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
Offertory
The minister shall call the laity to donate to the cause of the Church. Also after the Offertory of the laity the Elements are presented for the Holy Eucharist.
Through Christ let us continually praise God and share what we have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Let us prepare Christ’s table with the offerings of our life and labor.
Peace
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. Colossians 3:15
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.
Confession and Absolution
Beloved in Christ: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, trusting in his faithfulness, let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God.
Let us confess our sins to Almighty God.
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. (4)
Amen.
Our God, who is rich in mercy, has forgiven you of all your sins.

Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God!
It is right to give Him our thanks and praise.
Be present Lord Jesus, our great High Priest! Be present as you were present with your disciples, and make yourself known in the breaking of the bread.
Almighty God, Immortal Savior, we come humbly to Your Holy Table. Accept this our offering. We ask of You to grace us with the blessing of Your presence. You are just in not coming to our side but You have promised to to so. Lord Jesus make known Your grace to the world. Prepare our hearts, gracious Father. Let us not take Your supper in vain. Praise be to the Holy and Mighty God of Israel! Amen.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace.
Tersanctus
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of Your glory,
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!
Anamnesis
The Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.
Mysterion
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.
Consecration
O Spirit of God, Giver of Life alone, come to this place and consecrate the bread and wine. Grace us with Your holy presence O Spirit of Christ.
The Lord's Prayer
Let us recite the prayer or our Lord.
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
We give thee thanks, our Father, for the life and knowledge which thou didst make known to us through Jesus thy Child. To thee be glory for ever. As this broken bread was scattered upon the mountains, but was brought together and became one, so let thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into thy Kingdom, for thine is the glory and the power through Jesus Christ for ever.
Drinking of the Cup
We give thanks to thee, our Father, for the Holy Vine of David thy child, which, thou didst make known to us through Jesus thy child; to thee be glory for ever.
Invitation
Beloved, baptized into the Lord’s Body, I invite you to come to His Most Holy Table and receive His Body and Blood which He has so graciously prepared for you.
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us, therefore let us keep the feast.
Response
You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.
The Great Thanksgiving
We give thanks to thee, O Holy Father, for thy Holy Name, which thou didst make to tabernacle in our hearts, and for the knowledge and faith and immortality which thou didst make known to us through Jesus thy Child. To thee be glory for ever. Thou, Lord Almighty, didst create all things for thy Name's sake, and didst give food and drink to men for their enjoyment, that they might give thanks to thee, but us hast thou blessed with spiritual food and drink and eternal light through thy Child. Above all we give thanks to thee for that thou art mighty. To thee be glory for ever.
Remember, Lord, thy Church, to deliver it from all evil and to make it perfect in thy love, and gather it together in its holiness from the four winds to thy kingdom which thou hast prepared for it. For thine is the power and the glory for ever. Let grace come and let this world pass away. Hosannah to the God of David. If any man be holy, let him come! if any man be not, let him repent: Maranatha.
Amen.
Benediction and Dismissal
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
And also to you.
