The first site to be designated as an Imperial Park is the Sylvan Springs Beverage Garden. The stone structure was erected in 1939 as part of the Works Progress Administration under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to bring the country out of the Great Depression. The Beverage Garden has three beautiful stone bridges crossing a winding, moss covered, stream. A small ampitheater and old sundial sit to one side. The Garden is a tranquil place to get away from the St. Louis suburb it is next to. A playground is nearby and many children have adopted the Garden as a second playground.
The Beverage Garden is in a state of disrepair due to years of neglect. By being designated an Imperial Park, the Republic hopes to protect its history and preserve it for posterity.
