This topic is posted in the most public of all forums... for a reason.
shall the senate be no longer a "social" club, composed of a select few? i think, to generate Natopian interest, all citizens shall be granted a seat in the senate!
any discussion? from anyone, citizen or foreigner?

Eh... maybe if they apply to be a senator they will get to be a senator. But if they don't, they obviously don't have enough interest in Natopia so they shouldn't be granted a seat in the Senate

good idea... invite all citizens to apply for a seat in the senate then I'll appoint the ones who have expressed a past interest. with 38 citizens... and only 5 or so voting senators... it'll be nigh impossible to get a majority vote to pass bills.
the constitution does not place a limit on the number of senators from a Region.. so we wont have to worry about that. the constitution says that i may appoint any citizen to represent the Region in which they live.
instead of a reform, maybe i should just appoint a few new senators... not that much... ive got 2 or three in mind.

i didnt know the Antican senate reformed. i havnt looked around in the Antican Senate boards since i cant vote there ;D i wasnt even thinking of preserving citizens' rights when proposing this reform... Natopia's national motto is "peace through silent oppression" and we have never and will never opperate any sort of elections. i thought that allowing all the citizens to vote would give them a reason to be involved in Natopia. natopia has 28 citizens... only 10 have registered on this forum, and only 2 (other than myself) post on a regular basis.
i do want the Senate to retain some "prestige" in Natopia... so I'm considering appointing 3 people to a seat in the senate. people who will, if asked, vote when needed and give some life to Natopia by doing so.
Sanda S., current Enforcer of Domestic Tranquility Jana S., current Minister of Internal Affairs HH Craig B., current Regional Judge of Lochhatonia
if the Grand Judge does not object I will appoint these people as senators.

What we did in Antica was actually allow every citizen a vote in the Senate (with a few exceptions as of late). This increases the level of participation, and desire to take part in the nation. As well, we were already operating that way, due to an amendment to our constitution that held off elected senators until we had enough citizens to do so, so we basically were just officializing it.
Antica, however, has been going through a number of "democratic" reforms, such as instating Chief Ministerial elections. These are all for the primary purpose of increasing activity and to make things interesting, but they've seemed to work so far.

the problem with Natopia's activity is that the bulk of our citizens all go to school with each other. therefore i "recruited" all my friends who dont really care about governments and were given gov't jobs if they said they'd "play along." this was almost 2 years ago... really before natopia got serious about being a micronation. so now we're stuck with all these "dead weight" citizens whose only purposes are to keep our population up.
i'll admit, that I haven't been doing a good job getting people excited about Natopia... ive been very busy with being a Laval citizen and the IA's Minster of External Affairs. i have a feeling that if asked... and eased into the job of senator, some Natopians will come to enjoy being a Natopian official. that, and we have a great sense of humor... we just made the goat our national animal. ;D

Well out of interest in helping your nation, I would suggest that you get rid of these "dead weight" citizens officially (much like Antica has also just done ), so that you may carry on and have a more realistic view on what you need to do in terms of citizenship recruitment to progress as a nation.

i've thought of revoking citizenships many times. but we are bound by our constitution, which says that citizenships cannot be revoked. there is a loophole in the constitution however. if a citizen is tried and found guilty of treason they will be exhiled... and their citizenship will be revoked.

Hmm... you know, constitutions can always be amended... As a matter of fact, a new bill was just put into the Antican Senate that will entirely reform our judicial system. (As a Korhali you still have the right to debate, so you might want to check it out). It's quite well done, if I do say so myself, and I hope it goes through smoothly... but then again, I could just wave my hand and it would be done, but that's not very fun, now is it?

This discussion in itself seems like a sign of good things to come between our nations.

ill press the charges... or you can... but what we need is something we dont have... a COURT. the Grand Judge is supposed to appoint lower judges and establish a judicial system... much like the US constitution established the judicial branch.... and we need to find a jury or six and a lawyer for both sides.

I agree. We definitely need to drop the people who are in Natopia just to say "Hey, I'm a natopian Citizen, and you're not. HA!"
