1. Eritrea
Pros: recently gained independance from ethiopia (possibly sympathetic to groups wishing for independance)
one of the poorest countries on the planet (although this may seem a con think that we may be able to bring wealth and skills for mutual benefit)
located on the red sea (good for tourism)
cons: unstable region ( sudan to the west, ethiopia to the south)
arid (extensive irrigation needed for crops, posibly desalinization plants required)
little or no freedom of expression (aside from being morally wrong they may not want a very liberal neighbor)
2. Solomon islands
pros: over 900 islands (more choice of a natopian homeland)
poor (same reasons as eritrea)
close to australia and new zealand (possibility for tourism income)
good climate (forests, although extensivley logged. possibly a good quantity of arable land)
cons: logistical nightmare (few links to outside world)
limited living space (small islands)
local law is rather ad hoc (practically lawless on some of the smaller islands)
3. mali
pros: poor ( same reasons as above)
large territory and low population density (more land availiable)
cons: landlocked (no ports or fisheries)
logistical nightmare
arid
possibly unstable
4: tanzania
pros: good climate
poor
indian ocean coastline (easier access for shipping)
cons: high HIV infection rate (absolutely bloody awful)
5: democratic republic of congo
pros: huge country (plenty of choice)
poor
heavily forested with hot climate
mineral rich
cons: high HIV rate
unstable long history of civil war
small coastline
logistical nightmare
typically we are looking for a poor country with plenty of territory, preferably with a coastline for ports, half decent climate, with not too difficult international access.
the plan is open negotiations and try to reach a written agreement for soveriegn territory in return for a financial lump sum and/or a percentage of our national annual income for a set ammount of time as well as sharing skills and aiding in the building/rebuilding of infrastructure of the nation in question
personally i think our best bet would be eritrea
now i ask that everyone read the above and offer whatever suggestions they have, be it a possible country or something to offer in return for soveriegn territory
