To Nate and the People of Natopia:
Several days ago, I sent to the Grand Commonwealth's Cabinet the following letter:
The response that I received was that they would not allow us to become free, because they feel that my late husband, the former Sultan of Hatay, wouldn't leave Babkha. In other words, these people who knew my husband only for a short time, and many didn't even realize that my husband was the Sultan, somehow think they knew him and what he would do better than I do. I'm sure I don't have to point out how ridiculous that is.
As you can see from the letter above, we were asking for nothing but the name. We didn't want to take any land, etc - we just wanted a chance to break out and prosper without being tied to a half-dead horse. Babkha has fallen totally inactive; they don't even have forums at this time. And the Grand Commonwealth as a whole is rather slow and not so active. So why should Hatay be forced to remain tethered to an inactive nation which is part of a semi-inactive commonwealth?? We shouldn't be, and the people of Hatay have spoken and we will NOT be denied our God-given rights to freedom.
At this moment, there are a total of seven active people in Hatay, and ALL SEVEN have approved our Unilateral Declaration of Independence, which you can read at the end of this post.
Some people in the GC Cabinet seem to be forgetting how they've whined and moaned about "Intellectual Copyright" with regards to the place names of Gotzborg. If it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me!! Hatay was named and created by my husband, and approved by Ardashir. Rob named the cities (except for La Plata which we will leave alone). So I guess that means that in the same vein that people like Liam are claiming that Gotzborg's cities are Sean's property - the name Hatay and the cities are mine - as the widow of their creator - right? Doesn't matter if I'm right because that's how we're going with this. Actually, for the record, all the names associated with Hatay came from the Indiana Jones movies. lol
We tried to do this the nice way and asked for the chance to live beyond what now seems like the endgame for Babkha. We were denied that, and are now forced to declare independence and leave without their consent. We will be removing ourselves from the GSO map, since it's obvious that some of their leadership would block any claims Hatay made. Instead, we will be lodging a claim with the MCS - it's a nice chunk of land that will suit us just fine.
We are hopeful that we can count on your moral support of our right to independence, our right to freedom and prosperity without being tied to the burdensome yoke of the GC.
Despite all the harsh times that lay ahead, I am pleased to announce the formation of the Islamic Kingdom of Hatay, and welcome you all to stop in for a visit sometime (after we're done moving and all lol).
Best wishes to everyone.

Several days ago, I sent to the Grand Commonwealth's Cabinet the following letter:
Honorable Members of the Cabinet:
Almost two years ago, the Great Ardashir Khan Osmani, Shahanshah of Babkha, created the Islamic Sultanate of Hatay as a province held in direct Fief to the Crown of Babkha. He ennobled my husband, who became Sultan Muhammad. My husband worked very hard to create a website, and carried on several projects including the creation of a Petrochemical District, and the formation of a company based in Hatay which built fighter planes. At it's zenith, Hatay saw a flurry of international activity as several nations sought to purchase planes from the Al-Amin Corporation; also, individuals came to the Masjid al-Umra, seeking information about the Islamic religion.
After my husband was called up to Paradise, Hatay fell into a state of severe neglect. Nobody was willing or able to take over the reins, and so Hatay was all but forgotten. Before Ardashir abdicated, he offered Hatay to the Emperor of Stormark, in an attempt to see that the Province went to someone who would care for it. I returned to micronations soon after this, and told Harald that it would be best to leave Hatay with Babkha and the Grand Commonwealth, since I believed that was the most honorable thing to do. The Treaty of al-Baqir Bay was the result.
What I could not anticipate was the horrible lull in activity that had besieged Babkha. While it would be possible for me to continue to administer Hatay within the confines of being an Imperial Fief of Babkha, I feel that the Province will not be able to properly flourish. There are almost no people participating there, and as a mere division of Babkha, I believe that our best hope will be to secede and re-form ourselves as an independent nation.
I currently have a total of six other people interested in participating in an independent Hatay. Should your wisdom bring you to the proper conclusion that Hatay will have a better chance for prosperity as our own nation, we would ask for nothing from the Grand Commonwealth aside from the place names. The land will remain with Babkha as we have no desire to take anything away or detract from the Grand Commonwealth.
It is my most sincere desire that you will give this idea due consideration, and do Hatay the great favor of allowing us our independence. Should anyone wish to discuss the idea with me, please feel free to contact me directly. I will be happy to show you the progress I've already made in anticipation of becoming independent. My best wishes to you.

Whereas in the course of human affairs history has shown that it may become necessary for a people to resolve the political affiliations which have connected them with another people and to assume amongst other nations the separate and equal status to which they are entitled:
And whereas in such event a respect for the opinions of mankind requires them to declare to other nations the causes which impel them to assume full responsibility for their own affairs:
Now therefore, we, the Viziers and People of Hatay, do hereby declare:
That it is an indisputable and accepted historic fact that since 2005 the Sultanate of Hatay has exercised the powers of self-government and have been responsible for the progress, development and welfare of their people;
That the people of Hatay, having demonstrated their loyalty to the Crown of Babkha and to their kith and kin in the Grand Commonwealth and elsewhere through several military conflicts, and having been prepared to shed their blood and give of their substance in what they believed to be the mutual interests of freedom-loving people, now see all that they have cherished about to be shattered on the rocks of intolerance;
That the people of Hatay have witnessed a process which is destructive of those very precepts upon which civilization in a primitive country has been built, they have seen the principles of freedom, responsible government and moral standards crumble elsewhere, nevertheless they have remained steadfast;
That the people of Hatay fully support the requests of their government for sovereign independence but have witnessed the refusal of the Government of the Grand Commonwealth to accede to their entreaties;
That the government of the Grand Commonwealth have thus demonstrated that they are not prepared to grant sovereign independence to Hatay on terms acceptable to the people of Hatay, thereby persisting in maintaining an unwarrantable jurisdiction over Hatay, to the detriment of the future peace, prosperity and good government of Hatay;
That the Viziers and People of Hatay have patiently and in good faith contacted the Government of the Grand Commonwealth for the removal of the limitations placed upon them and for the grant of sovereign independence;
That in the belief that procrastination and delay strike at and injure the very life of the nation, the Government of Hatay consider it essential that Hatay should attain, without delay, sovereign independence, the justice of which is beyond question;
Now therefore, we the Viziers and People of Hatay, in humble submission to Allah who controls the destinies of nations, conscious that the people of Hatay have always shown unswerving loyalty and devotion to the Shah of Babkha and the Grand Commonwealth and earnestly praying that we will not be hindered in our determination to continue exercising our undoubted right to demonstrate the same loyalty and devotion, and seeking to promote the common good so that the dignity and freedom of all men may be assured, do, by this proclamation, adopt enact and give to the people of Hatay a new Constitution and a new Government;
We do further state that from this day forward, our nation shall be known as the Islamic Kingdom of Hatay;
Given under Our Hand at Baqir Castle this twenty-eighth day of Raby` al-THaany, in the year 1428 A.H.
Signed by the Viziers Assembled:

Saleh ibn Umar, Vizier of Religious Affairs
Isa ibn Abdulaziz, Vizier of Military Affairs
Msaada Berrabah, Vizier of Cultural Affairs
