They were going to either add 3 or take away one and they chose the smarter path since there are a bunch of rocks that are pluto-esque in that reason. Had they added 2 we'd chave Charon as a seperate planet, UBB 313 as a recognized planet, and Ceres, a planet actually on our side of the meteor belt that was once thought of as a planet but demoted in the 1800's.

I totally agree with Pluto's nonplanetary status though, a bunch of rocks just like it are in a similar orbit close to it and there is obvioulsy now one proved to be larger so I agree with the loss of Pluto's status.

Pluto's not a planet because you don't have the credentials to say so.
And irregardless of official recognition, common sense tells you Pluto isn't a planet. Unless every one of the millions of floating rocks in this galaxy are also planets. You wanna name them?
